Why study in UK?

UK is the heartland of Europe and a land of opportunity. That is what hundreds of thousands of international students study in the UK each year, making studying in the UK the number two destination for international students in the world, second only to the USA. For students worldwide that would like an English-language education, what better place to study than the country that invented the language? With an excellent higher-education system and hundreds of world-class universities, the UK promises a rich experience for international students. With high class institutions at every corner and much more flexibility than many other countries, the United Kingdom has so much to offer students that countries such as the USA or Australia cannot offer.

Standard of education
The degrees and qualifications from UK higher education institutions are known around the world as high quality and world class. A qualification from a UK institution is very prestigious, as standards are high at all levels.

Universities and colleges are continually assessed by official bodies that grade the standard of their research and teaching. The qualifications students gain are recognised worldwide, and UK courses encourage independence, creativity and, importantly, self-reliance.

A degree from one of the UK universities is therefore making you the best choice of the companies in India and abroad.

Variety and choice
UK universities and colleges offer a huge range of academic and vocational opportunities available at all levels, from further to higher education. The higher education sector ranges from traditional seats of learning that have existed for hundreds of years to modern, state-of-the-art universities.

You can choose a college located in the heart of a city or a purpose-built countryside campus with a host of facilities on site.

Less expensive
The cost of education for an international student in the UK is much lower compared to countries such as the USA. Some courses in the USA can be $35,000 plus a year. The majority of UK higher education institutions are in the region of £7,000 to £9,000 a year.

Most postgraduate degrees only last for one year, as opposed to two in other countries, which means you can finish your degree more quickly and start earning more in the workforce. Most undergraduate degrees take three years, making them shorter than similar programs in other countries and very cost-effective.

Work in the UK
The visa and immigration regulations in the UK are very different, as you would expect to many other countries. A student in the UK can typically be allowed to work up to 20 hours a week in order to provide some source of income. According to the Visa regulations, on a student visa of more that 6 months duration, you can work 20 hours a week part time and 40 hrs a week full time during vacations. The minimum wage regulation in the UK states that the minimum possible wage per hour (over 18 years old) for students working part time must be £5.35, and generally students are paid between £5.35 and £7 an hour depending on the nature of the job.

Student support
All UK universities and colleges have specialist international officers whose job is to provide support for international students. You can approach these officers for independent advice and information on almost anything, from accommodation through to how to extend your permission to stay in the UK.

Most institutions also arrange orientation programmes for new international students at the beginning of the academic session. The duration and content of these programmes vary considerably: some last only one or two days and others for a whole week. Typical elements include: a tour of the campus, an overview of the facilities and how to use them, explanations of the institution's rules, help with registering for your course, an outline of teaching methods, discussion of important aspects of life in the UK, and social events where you can meet staff and other students.

Once you've settled in, you'll find that the support continues. Advice on personal, financial, practical and health matters is always on hand, and at the end of course you can even seek advice from qualified career counsellors who will help you make a decision about your future career options.

Multi cultural
Universities and colleges in the UK are increasingly international. When you study here, you are likely to find yourself meeting students from all over the world. More than ninety countries may be represented on campus and each student makes a unique contribution to the life of the institution, both academically and culturally.

In today’s global economy, graduate employers value the skills and experience that students gain from an international education. The global market makes it increasingly desirable to have some experience of different countries and cultures, and studying in the UK will give you this advantage.

By studying in the UK you will gain a wealth of knowledge, exposure and skills that will help you in your future career

Gateway to Europe
The United Kingdom is considered by most to be the gateway into Europe, and now with the Eurostar and low cost airlines such as EasyJet and Ryan Air, most of Europe is very easy to access within a few hours. For example, you are studying in London or Manchester and you want a weekend away - with companies such as Ryan Air you can be in Italy within hours and flights often start at just 1 cent (but you have to book early). Well, you need a visa; that is not easy as we think.
