Are you a permanent resident of China, India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand or Singapore who would like to study for a Masters in Scotland?

The Scottish International Scholarship Programme is targeted at graduates in science, technology and the creative industries, and aims to create lasting connections between Scotland and industry leaders and entrepreneurs across the world.

It is supported by the Scottish Executive's Fresh Talent initiative which aims to encourage bright, talented and hard-working individuals to live, work and study in Scotland.

The programme is offering 22 scholarships for the academic year 2007/8 for courses at any Scottish higher education institution.

The scholarship covers the tuition fees, return economy airfare and a living allowance.

The course must be a Masters programme of not more than 12 months based in a Scottish institution during the academic year 2007/8. Priority will be given to courses in science and technology and the creative industries.

What Can I Study?
Priority subject areas for the Scottish International Scholarships are science, technology and the creative industries. This includes a wide range of subjects across all of Scotland’s universities and higher education institutions.

The list below is intended as a guide to priority subject areas and is not a list of courses. This list is not exclusive and applications for courses in broader subject areas will be considered. Please note however, that MBA applications are not normally considered for this scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria
You must meet the following criteria to apply:

  • a permanent resident of People’s Republic of China (excluding Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) / India / South Africa / Australia / New Zealand / Singapore and be in your home country at the time of application
  • aged between 25 and 35 years old at the time of application
  • have 3 - 5 years relevant working experience
  • demonstrate a good working level of English (IELTS 6.5 score / certificate may be required)
  • not currently working or studying in the UK
  • not in receipt of any other scholarships or award for the academic year 2007/8
  • hold a good first degree in a related subject from a recognized university.

How to apply

  1. Please ensure that you meet eligibility criteria specified for the scholarship.
  2. Search for taught postgraduate courses in Scotland. Find out more about what courses are available by visiting the Education UK Scotland website. Priority subject areas are science, technology and the creative industries. You can also visit the Education UK centres at your nearest British Council office for information and guidance.
  3. Apply directly to the Scottish institution(s) before applying for a Scotland Scholarship.
    You must apply to Scottish institution(s) of your choice before applying for the Scotland Scholarships. Please attach evidence of your application to a maximum of three Scottish institutions to your scholarship application form. The scholarship offer will be subject to obtaining a confirmed offer of admission from one of the three chosen institutions.
  4. Download the Scotland Scholarship application forms and complete it.
