Whether you want to undertake a short 12-week professional course or a
long-term taught master’s programme from any UK University there
are several scholarships on offer to help you meet expenses. Most of them
are managed by British Council, details of which can be found in their
website. British Council offices in the UK are not involved in the scholarship
process and therefore do not give away information or scholarship application
forms. Please note also that the scholarships administered by the British
Council are allocated more than one academic year in advance of the start
of the course, so you should start enquiring at least eighteen months
in advance.
Besides the following scholarships, most of the British Universities are
offering their own scholarships and a majority of them are available for
international students. For example, University of Sheffield provides
partial tuition fee reduction for most of the Indian Undergraduate applicants
who apply for Science, Engineering or Law Bachelor degrees for the duration
of their undergraduate studies. In addition ALL Indian Postgraduate Masters
applicants are eligible for a partial scholarship as well. There are also
a small number of 50% top-up scholarships available to Indian students
in Sheffield University. I may be able to help you to find these types
of scholarships if you know exactly what subject you are looking for.
One important thing you need to remember while thinking about scholarship
is that you cannot expect scholarships and financial aid to fall into
your lap. So do your homework, do your research and try to find the one
scholarship that will work for you and then apply for it. Unless you take
the time and energy to look for one, you will probably not get one.
